Excellence Awards 2007

14/06/2006

19 Leicestershire and Rutland businesses apply for East Midlands stage of awards, celebrating the best of English tourism

A record number of Leicestershire and Rutland tourism businesses have applied for the 2007 East Midlands Enjoy England Excellence Awards, organised by East Midlands Tourism. 19 separate local businesses have submitted applications to East Midlands Tourism for the awards that recognise the achievements of tourism businesses throughout the region.

Known throughout the industry as the 'Oscars' of tourism, the awards celebrate the best of English tourism, promote healthy industry competition and high standards, and help to ensure England's place as a world-class destination. Local applicants will be shortlisted by an independent panel for the regional awards to be held in September 2006.
Some of the East Midlands winners will then go on to represent the region in the national awards in April 2007, organised by VisitBritain and sponsored by The Caravan Club.

Last year Leicestershire businesses took three gold awards including the Outstanding Customer Service title which was won by Sam Hill of Leicester's Holiday Inn hotel. Sam was nominated by her manager for her "unparalleled level of customer care" during 10 years at the hotel, and her commitment and dedication recently brought her further acclaim when she won the national title at an awards ceremony held at London's Madame Tussauds.
Leicestershire's other regional gold winners were Kilworth House Hotel in Lutterworth which was named as Best Small Hotel/Townhouse, and Swadlincote's Conkers which took Best Large Visitor attraction. The county also won five silver and two bronze awards.

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions added: "The annual Enjoy England Excellence Awards are an excellent showcase for the cream of Leicestershire and Rutland's tourism businesses. We're delighted by the response of local businesses for next year's awards and look forward to celebrating further success following the national recognition achieved at last year's finals."
