Airport backs Three Cities Campaign to target new business to the region
16/08/2004
A massive billboard in the Immigration Hall at Nottingham East Midlands
Airport (NEMA) will mark the launch of the Three Cities collaborative campaign
to promote the region to businesses in the UK and overseas.
Using the theme, ‘Connecting Investment and Economy in the
Heart of the Region, the campaign brings together the Three Cities
of Nottingham, Derby and Leicester, with the Airport having a central role
in the initiative which demonstrates how competitive the area can be for
new business. The six foot poster site highlights the excellent location
and transport links; employment skills; integration and cultural diversity
of the East Midlands region, and what it can offer to businesses looking
to invest in the area.
Along with EMDA, Nottingham East Midlands Airport (NEMA) is an integral
partner in the new campaign, which will build initiatives to develop common
investment and development strategies; introduce common protocols; and improve
information management systems across the region. One of the key objectives
is to maximise the total resources across the region, and enable the exchange
of knowledge and expertise needed to collectively target new business relocation
into the East Midlands area – both from the Public Sector and from
Foreign Development Initiatives (FDIs).
Graham Keddie, Managing Director of NEMA, said, “As the gateway to
the region, now providing both long and short haul flight options, NEMA is
proud to be an active partner in the Three Cities initiative. Not only will
it raise awareness of the exciting possibilities for business that the region
offers but it will help to make the area a primary target for inward investment.
This is a real case of the ‘whole being greater than the sum of the
parts’, and we are particularly pleased to be working alongside our
local authority partners in such a vital effort for the region’s future.”
NEMA, one of the UK’s fastest growing regional airports, handles some
4.5 million passengers each year, and is the major freight hub for the region.
The airport is part of the Manchester Airports Group (MAG), which also includes
Manchester, Bournemouth and Humberside airports.
