Launch of discover Leicester tour for summer 2006
17/05/2006
Big red open top buses back on the road to show visitors and residents around city attractions
The hugely successful open top bus sightseeing tours will be showing people the delights of Leicester even earlier this year. The Discover Leicester Tour, now running for the sixth year, will begin its summer programme of guided tours on 27 May 2006.
The launch of the Discover Leicester Tour, sponsored by Great Central Railway, the National Space Centre and Dominoes Toys will be followed shortly by the announcement of a series of county tours. The Discover Leicester Tour is a great way of discovering more about the city and visiting the wide range of attractions, offering on-board commentary from an expert guide. Tickets can be purchased on the buses themselves or from the Leicester Tourist Information Centre and details of the timetables, pick-ups and stops, and prices can be found at www.goleicestershire.com
The Discover Leicester Tour runs every day for the spring Bank Holiday week, then every weekend through to the summer holidays when it operates every day until 29 August 2006. There's more good news as the on-board fares have been frozen for this year - so you can pay last year's price for this year's tour. Slight timetable changes mean there are better connections with the Great Central Railway at Leicester North and improved opportunities to enjoy some of the big events coming to the National Space Centre and the Great Central Railway this summer.
Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions said: "We're delighted that the Discover Leicester Tours are back for another year – bigger and better than before. The family of Open Top Tours provides the ideal opportunity to showcase Leicester and Leicestershire's beautiful countryside, historical links and award-winning attractions in a fun and interesting way."
